Early Childhood Assembly

Early Childhood Assembly

Today Kindergarten hosted their very first Early Childhood assembly. As host we performed two items and were in charge of running the assembly. Students from each class were selected to speak to the assembly and make special annoucements. Well done to Madelynne and Brock who were the speakers from KBMS. They did a wonderful job.
As we have been learning all about the days of the week, months of the year and seaons this term, we decided to sing a song all about the months of the year. This song has been a great way to help us remember all of the months and the order they fall. Our second item was the song "Green Eggs and Ham". This was such a fun song to sing and all the students and teachers loved it. Everyone did such a fabulous job and we were very proud of them. It was great to see how well they performed and the fantastic behaviour they all demonstrated on stage. What a fabulous way to end the week!
Well done Kindergarten, your teachers' are very proud.

Buddies - Week 4

Buddies

Last Friday KBMS met our year 5 buddies for the year. Our buddies came to visit our classroom and to get to know us a little bit better. They brought with them a book to read with us. After we finished reading the story together we created an artwork that showed our favourite part of the story. We talked about different things that we like to do and told each other a little bit about ourselves. After this activity we had a bit of extra time so our buddies helped us complete our ‘days of the week caterpillar’. We had a great morning with our buddies getting to know each other and look forward to the next time that we get to spend time with them.

Number - Counting On

Today in our number lesson we were focusing on counting on strategies. We discussed as a class what counting on means and decided together that it means choosing a number and counting on from that number. We had a go practising counting on together as a class. We then worked in pairs to practise our counting on skills. With our partners, one person rolled the dice and wrote that number on a mini whiteboard. The other person then had to have a go at counting on from that number. We then swapped so each person had a go at counting on. It was a great way to practise this new skill and we had lots of fun working with our peers.

Music

This term in music we have been learning about different musical concepts. Last week we focused on beat and rhythm. We learnt that a beat never changes, it always stays the same. Sometimes it can be fast and sometimes it can be slow. We also learnt about rhythms and worked with a friend to create a rhythm for each other.
This week in music we are learning about pitch and tempo. Today we learnt that a high pitch means it is has high notes, and a low pitch means that it has low notes. We also started to look at tempo. Tempo relates to the speed of a song. We listened to a few different songs and had a go at moving to the music. When we heard slow songs we needed to make sure we used slow movements. We we heard fast songs we needed to make sure we used fast movements. It was a great way for all of us to explore the concepts of music.

Investigations Week 4

During investigations in week 4 we had some of the same activities as last week set up. A favourite by far was the marble run, with all students having a go at some stage throughout the week.
The students enjoyed discovering the different sounds percussion instruments can make. This link really well with our learning in music this term. In our music lessons we have been learning about beat, rhythm, pitch and tempo. Having our musical instruments out during investigations provided a great opportunity for some students to explore these different concepts.
Here are a few photos from our investigations time last week.

Talia practising writing her jolly sounds.

Jennah did a fantastic job writing out all her jolly sounds.

Sriya enjoyed exploring the different sounds different instruments can make.

The marble run was a favourite for all students. Rameena and Jack had a great time building a run together.

Ruby did an excellent job as our reporter. During our reflection we were able to clearly see what Ruby had reported on. She produced a great example of quality work for all the other students to comment on. Well done Ruby!

Noah from Diamond terrace comes to visit us during our investigation times. He loved joining in with the other students at the marble run.

Ruby and Talia were using water colours to produce some season artworks for our display.

Possum Magic Excursion

In our first week of school this term, Kindergarten and the Diamond Terrace went on an excursion to the Canberra Theatre. All of the children and teachers were very excited to see Possum Magic live on stage. Majority of the children were already familiar with this well loved Australian story. On stage we saw Grandma Poss, Hush, a blue wombat, Roo the kangaroo and other colourful characters. What a great start to the term.

We were all very excited waiting in the theatre for the show to start.

Investigations Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

We have been learning lots of great things during our investigations time. This week during investigations we have some new activities out on our tables. The favourites so far have been the marble run and the finger painting.

These are some of the photos our photographers have taken showing all of our learning.

Madelynne and Sriya using the water colours to create some beautiful 'season' paintings.

All of the students in KBMS have loved investigation with our puppets.

The finger painting has been a favourite for the week. Ruby and Maia thought the paint felt like a slimy frog.

Meisha and Rameena creating some more 'season' artwork.
Callum and Jack creating some 'season' artwork with the water colour.

Maia and Rameena finding the missing sound in some words.

The marble run was a very popular place this week.

Talia investigating with the delta sand.

Madelynne using the magnetic letters to sound out words.
