Welcome to Kindergarten 2013. KBMS students are very excited to share with you the things we have been learning about in class. We hope you enjoy having a look at what we have been doing. Feel free to leave us a comment or post a question for our class to discuss.

Counting backwards
This afternoon in maths we were learning about counting backwards. We talked about how counting backwards is the same as counting down. Then we got a chance to practise counting backwards using dice and mini whiteboards. It was great to see all of the students working so well together.
Talia's crown
I investigated at the cutting table. I cut out some love hearts.
Once I finished cutting I made a crown.

Reconciliation Week
Reconciliation Week May 27 - June 3
Last week was Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation week is a wee to remind us of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The theme for reconciliation week this year was 'Recognition'. As a class we discussed what reconciliation week was and brainstormed what we know about recognition. We decided as a class that recognition is about noticing the things that have happened to other people or noticing the things that other people do. We shared that we can recognise someone by saying thank you, by helping them, by being their friends, by saying sorry or by praising them when they do a good job. We decided that as a class we are going to show 'recognition' by remembering what has happened to the Aboriginal people in Australia, saying sorry for the things that were done in the past and to move forward and be their friends. To show that we are going to recognise these things KBMS created their own sea of hands. This can be found on display outside our classroom. We decorated our hands using Aboriginal art styles and colours. This was a great activity for us to show our school we are showing recognition. Everyone in KBMS had a great time learning about reconciliation week.
Investigations
Today was another busy day during our investigations time. All students had a great time and learnt lots. Jennah was our reporter today and she shared that her favourite thing during investigations was the clocks on the time table because she wants to know more about how to read analog time. Emilia was our photographer today and took lots of great photos of all the children investigating. Finally, Jack was our only focus child today as Brock was away. Jack shared with the class that he enjoyed investigating at the light table, the craft making table and the castle. When I was working with Jack he explained to me the game that he and some of his friends were creating at the castle. He shared that they were fighting against dragons to keep the treasure hidden in the castle. It was great to see so many of the boys in our class sharing the castle and creating imaginative play games together.

Early Childhood Assembly
Early Childhood Assembly
Today Kindergarten hosted their very first Early Childhood assembly. As host we performed two items and were in charge of running the assembly. Students from each class were selected to speak to the assembly and make special annoucements. Well done to Madelynne and Brock who were the speakers from KBMS. They did a wonderful job.
As we have been learning all about the days of the week, months of the year and seaons this term, we decided to sing a song all about the months of the year. This song has been a great way to help us remember all of the months and the order they fall. Our second item was the song "Green Eggs and Ham". This was such a fun song to sing and all the students and teachers loved it. Everyone did such a fabulous job and we were very proud of them. It was great to see how well they performed and the fantastic behaviour they all demonstrated on stage. What a fabulous way to end the week!
Well done Kindergarten, your teachers' are very proud.

Buddies - Week 4
Buddies
Last Friday KBMS met our year 5 buddies for the year. Our buddies came to visit our classroom and to get to know us a little bit better. They brought with them a book to read with us. After we finished reading the story together we created an artwork that showed our favourite part of the story. We talked about different things that we like to do and told each other a little bit about ourselves. After this activity we had a bit of extra time so our buddies helped us complete our ‘days of the week caterpillar’. We had a great morning with our buddies getting to know each other and look forward to the next time that we get to spend time with them.
