Reconciliation Week May 27 - June 3
Last week was Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation week is a wee to remind us of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The theme for reconciliation week this year was 'Recognition'. As a class we discussed what reconciliation week was and brainstormed what we know about recognition. We decided as a class that recognition is about noticing the things that have happened to other people or noticing the things that other people do. We shared that we can recognise someone by saying thank you, by helping them, by being their friends, by saying sorry or by praising them when they do a good job. We decided that as a class we are going to show 'recognition' by remembering what has happened to the Aboriginal people in Australia, saying sorry for the things that were done in the past and to move forward and be their friends. To show that we are going to recognise these things KBMS created their own sea of hands. This can be found on display outside our classroom. We decorated our hands using Aboriginal art styles and colours. This was a great activity for us to show our school we are showing recognition. Everyone in KBMS had a great time learning about reconciliation week.
